Philippines Polymer Trial Takes Shape

More details have emerged about the polymer trial in the Philippines.

It has been confirmed that the note will be produced by Note Printing Australia. The chosen substrate is GUARDIAN™ from CCL Secure.

According to Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) Governor Benjamin Diokno, Australia is the first country to issue full series polymer banknotes, and has produced and supplied polymer banknotes to several countries. ‘As such’, he said, ‘their advanced technology and expertise in the printing of polymer banknotes will be the best benchmark for our first circulation’.

Delivery of the first batch will be next April. 500 million pieces of 1,000 piso polymer banknotes will be rolled out by the middle of 2022, and the pilot will last for three years. The pilot will run across the country to obtain the necessary feedback from the public. The BSP has stated that it also wants to see if the benefits of polymer banknotes observed in other countries will also apply under the conditions in the Philippines.
