EverFit Takes Step Forward with New Portals/Banque de France Agreement
The banknote paper manufacturer Portals has signed a licence agreement with the Banque de France (BdF) for its multi-layer banknote technology, EverFit®. The agreement will enable Portals to manufacture the specialist cotton substrate used in EverFit banknotes and to promote the technology around the world.
EverFit was launched in in 2014 (see CN June 2014), and to date has only been available from the BdF’s paper mill and printing works in Chamalieres. It is a paper/polymer composite, in which the paper, embedded and applied features and print are all protected by micro layers of polymer which are applied at the final stage of production.
The BdF described the process, at its launch, as a combination of (i) an optimised paper formula, (ii) a new and highly adhesive film and (iii) optimal film application conditions. The micro polymer layers are laminated onto both sides of printed sheets of banknotes in a single pass using a specially-adapted laminator – the NotaLamina – developed by Koenig & Bauer Banknote Solutions. The final grammage of the banknote is comparable to that of other high-durability solutions.
