ECCB Completes its New Series

The Eastern Caribbean Central Bank (ECCB) issued its new $5 polymer banknote into circulation this month, completing the transition of its new family onto SAFEGUARD® polymer banknotes.

The new series, which was designed and printed by De La Rue, began its introduction in June 2019 with the new $50 denomination, with $5 completing the set this month. The design of the new series is in a vertical orientation instead of the traditional horizontal orientation of paper banknotes, providing a modern feel.

In terms of security features, all denominations contain the hide and reveal feature MASK™ and several machine detectable security features to ensure authenticity. The higher value denominations are additionally protected with a holographic foil stripe, containing secure effects that are framed by the clear polymer window.

A tactile emboss feature was included on every denomination to aid blind recognition, thus enabling parts of society on the islands to become properly financially included for the first time.
