Optical & Digital Document Security Conference Programme

Registration is now open for the new Optical & Digital Document Security™ (ODDS) conference, which will be in Vienna, Austria, 17-19 January 2022, with the programme available to view online at opticaldigitalsecurity.com.

This new conference combines the highly respected Optical Document Security™ conference with the Digital Document Security™ conference, because it is no longer appropriate to separate these domains. This recognises the current reality in the digitisation of what have traditionally been paper or polymer documents, while encouraging the high levels of security in the digital domain as have been achieved in the physical domain.

The two-day conference opens with a session on the transition from physical to digital and virtual, followed by a short session on new approaches to physical document security, before separate afternoon tracks for identity and currency and payments.

The currency and payments track includes presentations from many companies well-known in the field of currency protection, including SICPA, Orell Füssli, OVD Kinegram and Koenig & Bauer, but newcomers to the field including Crime Science Technology and UnderCurrency are also presenting.

Presentations relevant to the protection of financial transactions also feature in plenary sessions on new approaches to document security and micro-and nano-scale optical structures. These sessions also have presentations from established companies (Nanotech, SURYS, Louisenthal and OpSec) and newcomers Bodle Technologies presenting its switchable optically changeable ink.

Academic and research institutions are also well-represented, giving presentations on new features or research from Fraunhofer Institute, Pennsylvania State University, Yokohama National University, Austrian Institute of Technology and the Université de Technologies de Troyes.

Currency News™ readers may also be interested in the special keynote presentation by David Birch, author of ‘The Currency Cold War’ and ‘Identity is the New Currency’. His keynote is titled ‘Digital, Not Digitised: Security and Privacy, Identity and Credentials’.

The conference closes with a panel discussion to look at the future evolution of optical and digital document security.

There are two half-day specialist events preceding the two-day conference. On the morning of Monday 17 January there will be a seminar on international standards relevant to the security of identity and financial transactions, led by Dr Alan Hodgson, which will include a detailed look at the just-published ISO/IEC 18013-5 standard on mobile driving licences. The afternoon is devoted to a masterclass on security for cryptocurrencies and digital identities.
