Strong Currency Focus at Annual Holography Conference

The Holography Conference Online, the annual event for the worldwide holographic community, takes place 17-18 November, and this year currency-related presentations are strong on the agenda.

For example, leading off the programme will be Frank van der Horst of the De Nederlandsche Bank, with a presentation on ‘It All Starts with Attention’ looking at how banknote users’ attention can be guided towards features such as holograms to enhance authentication.

The presentation from KURZ – ‘OVD Foil in Banknote Windows’ – will cover paper and polymer banknotes, looking at the latest stripes and patches, the application of these in papermills and printworks, and forms of metallising appropriate for window features.

‘The Importance of Holograms for Banknote Security in the Future’ is the title of the presentation from De La Rue, covering the evolution of secure holograms for banknotes, how secure banknote-grade holograms differ from other technologies, the role that polymer banknotes have played in unlocking new holographic effects, and how the holograms offered today represent one of the best technical options for securing banknotes.

ISRA Vision will talk about mastering the challenges of thread slitting inspection (for holographic and other optically variable threads), while holography expert Dr Hans Bjelkhagen will bring a new perspective with his presentation on ‘New Opportunities for Holographic Coins’.

The conference comprises four sessions with four papers in each. Others relevant to the banknote community include maskless lithography, latest developments in colour holography, new authentication opportunities from Nanotech’s LiveOptiks feature, and new methods for mobile validation.
