GCF 2022 Ready to Launch at New Location in Port Aventura

The organisers of the Global Currency Forum (GCF) – the International Currency Association – confirm they are ready to launch the first event for the global currency industry from the industry’s leading suppliers, the GCF partners who represent the entire life cycle of currency.

Despite having just recently announced the unexpected need to relocate the GCF from its original location in Barcelona to the state-of the-art convention center in Port Aventura, with more than 350 participants from 100 organisations already registered, and new registrations confirming every day, the GCF says it is on track to launch in just four weeks, on 2 May.

The programme varies between keynotes, panel debates and breakout discussions and, say the organisers, will be unique in its focus on elevating awareness and understanding of the positive impact of cash whilst championing 360°perspectives, encouraging more controversial conversations about the role of cash in our changing society.

Discussions will be led by moderators who are experts in their respective fields, including journalists, academics, designers and enabling attendees to participate in debates and discussions about some of the industry’s most pressing challenges.

Participants will also have the opportunity to learn about new product launches and gain insights into the latest technologies developed by the global industry suppliers from across the currency cycle at over 25 Technology Workshops, which are embedded within the programme throughout the three day event.

From the dedicated spaces for meeting and networking through to the evening programme activities inclusive to all delegates, the GCF will ‘embrace the power of (re)connection’. It will be a 100% in-person event, with participants across cross the cash cycle from policymakers, central bankers, non-governmental organisations, cash management companies, grass-root organisations, plus stakeholders from beyond the cash industry.

The event kicks off with the first set of Technology Workshops on Monday 2 May and a welcome reception for all in the Hub Area of the GCF, where participants can meet the GCF Partners and their peers from around the world.

The main programme will start on the morning of Tuesday, 3 May, with a welcome address by Concha Jimenez, Chief Cashier from the Bank of Spain.

Over the course of the three days from 3-5 May, attendees will be able to participate in the series of keynotes, breakout sessions and panel debates relating to the three conference themes – The Role of Cash in a Changing Society, Fostering Innovation & Efficiency, and Best Practices in Sustainability and Design.

Specific topics and sessions include:

  • Cash in an Age of Uncertainty

  • Cash in a Humanitarian Context

  • Access, Availability & Acceptance of Cash

  • Cash and CBDC

  • Cash Cycle Efficiency

  • Cash & Crypto

  • Cash & The Pandemic

  • Sustainability in the Cash Cycle

  • Design for the Future – New Perspectives and Best Practice Across All Sectors.
