Nominations Open for IACA Currency Awards 2023

Nominations have opened for the 17th round of the ‘Excellence in Currency Awards’ run by IACA (the International Association of Currency Affairs) and sponsored by Currency News™.

The awards will be presented at the Gala Dinner at the Currency Conference in Mexico City on 16 May 2023, and comprise four categories:

  • Best New Circulating Banknote or Banknote Series

  • Best New Circulating Coin or Coin Series

  • Best New Currency Public Education Engagement Program

  • Best New Environmental Sustainability Project.

Projects of any issuer of banknotes/coins, central bank or ministry of finance, mint, printer or other supplier of products, services or systems for coin/banknote production, distribution, processing or management are eligible for nomination in the appropriate categories. Self-nomination by such organisations is allowable and encouraged.

Nominations in all categories are limited to the eligibility period from 1 October 2021 through 31 January 2023. All banknotes or coins must be issued, and all projects completed, during this period. IACA will accept nominations through to 6 February 2023. Nominations must be submitted through IACA’s award site – currencyaffairs.awardsplatform.com.

The judging committee includes Michael Lambert (former Director of Banknotes, Federal Reserve Board); Brian Lang (VP of IACA and former Head of Currency, Reserve Bank of New Zealand); David Tidmarsh (Chairman of Currency News); Richard Wall (IACA Chair and former Managing Director Currency, Bank of Canada); Ton Roos (former Director of Banknotes, ECB; and Lydia Yip (advisor to central banks and former Head of Currency, Hong Kong Monetary Authority).

IACA’s ‘Guidelines for IACA’s Excellence in Currency Awards’ and criteria for the 2023 awards can be found on the IACA website. The guidelines were developed to provide transparency and offer guidance on IACA’s criteria. Nominations that reflect those criteria and follow the guidelines will have the best chance of success.
