EMEA Cash Cycle Seminar (ICCOS) is Back – in Istanbul
In early June Currency Research will host its first in person Cash Cycle Seminar since COVID forced a postponement of the planned March 2020 event in Amsterdam. Taking place in Istanbul, the conference combines the previously separated Europe and MEA ICCOS events with a focused agenda examining developments in the cash distribution and circulation sector.
The Central Bank of Turkey will deliver a soft opening of the event by facilitating the traditional Central Bank Summit, which is expected to be attended by around 20 central banks from across the region. In updated programming, the summit will focus on sharing experiences on the topics of:
Cash Cycle Models and Cooperation with Private Sector Entities: discussion of traditional and modern cash cycle methods and (de)centralised cash management systems. It is aimed at exchanging ideas on the advantages and risks of cooperation between central banks, commercial banks, CIT companies, and the supervisory and regulatory roles of central banks.
Cash Centre Physical Specifications and Banknote Processing Activities: exchange of information about the physical conditions and working principles of cash centres. In addition, there will be an opportunity to compare a number of banknote processing systems, capacity adequacy and banknote destruction rates of different central banks.
Fighting Against Counterfeiting: the procedures and principles to be followed in the examination and evaluation of counterfeit banknotes, security features, the duties of branches and other responsible agencies and the working principles and workflows of counterfeit banknote tracking systems.
Cash Usage and Alternative Payment Methods: discussion of how widely cash is used in the economy, the factors affecting this and how the use of cash has changed with the spread of alternative payment instruments.
The main event will commence with speeches from the Central Bank of Turkey’s Vice Governor, Issue Department General Manager, and Director of Banknote Circulation Division, before a presentation session focusing on cash and payment trends across EMEA, featuring speakers from the Central Bank of Turkey, Central Bank of Oman, Swiss National Bank and Bantas.
A series of presentations will then be given by Raiffeisen Bank International, Stanbic Bank, Arute Solutions and G+D Currency Technology on automation in deposit, processing and circulation, examining challenges in depositing cash, and difficulties encountered when attempting to go cashless.
The ECB will provide a keynote speech on ‘Trends in Euro Banknote Circulation and Initiatives to Ensure Access to Cash’, before a discussion led by Enryo involving LINK, Sonect and OneBanks examining how alternative cash systems can help protect access to cash.
Sustainability in Cash Production and Distribution is a key global topic and the Central Bank of Egypt, Turkey’s Banknote Printing Works and Garanti BBVA will be sharing their latest work in this area, before G+D host a panel discussion on ‘How to keep Cash Sustainable’.
The conference will conclude with a session led by Enyro and involving the Bank of Israel and Central Bank of Turkey on ‘Cash As a Fallback, Regulatory & Legislative Considerations’.
Through the course of the main two days, a number of innovation session presentations will be provided by the event sponsors, including G+D Currency Technology, Bantas, Sargent & Greenleaf, Feerica, Aga Bullion, Landqart, Loomis, CPS, Landqart, Spinnaker and more.
On Friday, 3 June, Bantas – the leading CIT/CP provider in Turkey – will host a tour of its Cash Centre and Command Centre Facilities in Istanbul.
