Michele Bullock has been announced as the next Governor of the Reserve Bank of Australia (RBA), making her the first woman to lead the central bank. She replaces Philip Lowe, and will begin her seven-year term in September.

She holds a degree in economics from the University of New England and a Masters from the London School of Economics. She has been with the RBA since 1985, holding a variety of senior positions, most recently as Deputy Governor.

Pan Gongsheng has been appointed the Governor of the People’s Bank of China (PBOC), replacing Yi Gang, who took office in 2018. He was previously a Deputy Governor and has served as head of China’s foreign exchange regulator since 2016.

Eli Remolona, a veteran central banker and economist, has been named the next Governor of Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP). He will replace Felipe Medalla, who took up the post last July to complete Benjamin Diokno’s unfinished term after the former Governor was appointed Finance Minister.

Kosovo’s parliament has elected Ahmet Ismaili, a former Director-General of the State Treasury, as the new Governor of the Central Bank of Kosovo, replacing the current Acting Governor Bashkim Nurboja.

Singapore’s Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister, Lawrence Wong, has been appointed Chairman of the Monetary Authority of Singapore, replacing Tharman Shanmugaratnam.

Fabio Panetta, Executive Board Member of the European Central Bank, has been tipped to replace Ignzaio Visco as the next Governor of the Bank of Italy.

Hafize Gaye Erkan has been appointed Governor of the Central Bank of Turkey. A graduate of Princeton, Harvard and Stanford and with a background in international finance, she is the fifth governor in four years, replacing Sahap Kavcioglu. She is also the first women to hold the top post at the Bank.

Kamau Thugge, an economic advisor to the President, has been confirmed as the new Governor of the Central Bank of Kenya, replacing Patrick Njoroge.

The National Bank of Georgia has elected Natia Turnava as First Vice-Governor. The appointment means Turnava takes over as Acting Governor – the first woman to do so.

Manuel António Tiago Dias, former Senior Deputy Governor, has been confirmed as Governor of the National Bank of Angola, replacing José de Lima Massano, who has been appointed Minister for Economic Coordination.

Bank Negara Malaysia has appointed Deputy Governor Abdul Rasheed Abdul Ghaffour as the new Governor, succeeding incumbent Nor Shamsiah Mohd Yunus.

Godwin Emefiele, the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, has been suspended by the country’s new President and arrested. His interim successor is Folashodun Shonubi.

Polish Security Printing Works (PWPW) has appointed its former Vice President, Piotr Ciompa, as President of the Board, replacing Maciej Biernat, who had held the position since 2018. A graduate of the University of Warsaw with an MBA from the University of Calgary, he has been with PWPW since 2020, having previously had many years’ experience in the management of medium and large companies in a variety of industries.

Meta Materials has announced the appointment of Alan Newman as Chief Product Officer for Authentication and Managing Director of the Banknote and Authentication New Business Unit, reporting to META’s President and CEO. Alan was recruited from De La Rue, which he joined in 2008 and where he was most recent Currency Product Director. Prior to that, he was Production Manager at the Bank of England.
