Vacuumatic Restructures, Expands in Germany
The Vacuumatic Group, in operation for over 70 years, has announced a restructuring programme involving the closure of its headquarters at Colchester in the UK, and the transfer of production to its former sales and service subsidiary in Germany.
Vacuumatic was founded in 1951 to produce a paper counting machine from a Swedish patented design that had been purchased by Portals. Since then, it has become a major supplier of solutions around banknote counting, web marking, paper processing, converting, batching and feeding. In addition to the German subsidiary, set up in 1966, it has a network of distributors around the world.
The UK head office and main manufacturing site has now gone into liquidation, a casualty of massive price increases for energy and raw materials as a result of the global upheavals caused by the war in Ukraine, the long-term consequences of Brexit as well as the pandemic.
A new owner has now stepped in and the company, with its long standing tradition in the special machine manufacturing sector, will expand its business operations at its location in Wesel, Germany (which formerly concentrated on sales/service and global marketing) to include production.
In a continuation of the cooperation with its long-standing suppliers, Vacuumatic says it can continue to guarantee the well-known robustness and highest quality of its products. As part of this guarantee, Vacuumatic Maschinen GmbH has assumed all applicable warranty obligations of Vacuumatic Ltd.
The relocation of production is under way. The location and the experienced team from the Lower Rhine, supplemented by colleagues from the English IT, service and production departments, are being expanded as part of the restructuring under the management of Sandra Emde, who has been working internationally for the Vacuumatic group of companies for 23 years.
‘With new continental sales and service centers, Vacuumatic intends to be even more service-oriented in order to be closer to the customer and to guarantee fast, reliable after-sales and spare parts service’, she commented.
