In Celebration of the 17th Pacific Games
The Central Bank of Solomon Islands has announced plans to issue a new commemorative $10 banknote printed on SAFEGUARD® polymer by De La Rue. The new $10 note has been produced to commemorate the XVII Pacific Games 2023, which will be held for the first time in the Solomon Islands in November 2023.
1 million of the limited edition notes will be produced, and officially launched ahead of the Games. They will be widely circulated for use throughout the Solomon Islands.
The design on the front of the current $10 is being retained, but will also include a window feature with the image of an eagle’s head (which appears as the watermark of the paper version).
Features of the note include Argentum, a silver-coloured mirror like patch in the shape of CBSI, along with gold iridescence and coloured gravure in the substrate layers. Print features include striking UV (Gemini®) effects, such as a non-visible Games Logo along with the stars of the Southern Cross , which are revealed and glow under UV light. A tactile embossed feature is provided for the visually impaired.
Commenting on the new note, CBSI Governor Luke Forau said: ‘we hope our fellow Solomon Islanders will share in the opportunity to showcase our wonderful country with the many participants of the Pacific Games when they reach our shores. This banknote is a celebration of hosting and competing in these Pacific Games and ensuring lasting memories for all.’
