Currency in a Conflict Zone – How Sudan is Maintaining Production, Circulation and Confidence

It was three years ago this month that war broke out in Sudan. As has been previously, and frequently, reported in Currency News™, cash is the first and last resort in war-torn countries, as well as those affected by natural disasters. It is a matter of priority therefore, for the supply and distribution of currency to be maintained even in the most challenging of circumstances.

Sudan Currency Printing Press (SCPP) is no stranger to this, the printworks of the state-owned banknote and security printer having been damaged in the early days of the war. But peace and stability are now returning to most of the country, and the company is now looking to the future again.

Currency News spoke to Amna Mirghani, Governor of the Central Bank of Sudan (and former General Manager of SCPP) and Mohamed Abdelrahman Krory (current General Manager of SCPP) about how they faced the challenges of the past three years, and what the future holds.
