Security Feature and Coin Workshops
Two of the workshops at the forthcoming Banknote Conference (11-14 May) are open to all delegates. They are running concurrently, however, so delegates will have to choose between one or the other.
One is entitled ‘Past, Present & Future: The Evolution of Security Banknote OVDs’ and is being run by Dr Mark Deakes, Chairman of the International Optical Technologies Association (IOTA).
The workshop will offer a focused technical and historical overview of optically variable device (OVD) development for banknote security. It will cover the evolution and landscape of OVDs, types of OVDs, key advances in materials and manufacturing technologies, and the micro and nanostructuring techniques that define today’s feature landscape.
Drawing on expert insight and real-world examples, the session will examine how OVDs have adapted to remain robust authentication tools and explore the technological pathways shaping their future.
The other, entitled ‘Circulating Coins – the Countdown Begins’, will briefly explore the enduring relevance of coinage in the context of countries’ payment strategies, as a precursor to the Coin Conference itself, which takes place 28-30 September in Budapest.
