Sustainable Thinking and Energy-Saving Turbos

Climate action is embedded in G+D Louisenthal’s environmental strategy, with enhanced transparency in greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions from operations and upstream and downstream value chains.

Security paper production, feature creation, and banknote printing are highly production-intensive, and energy consumption is a significant aspect of operations. To address this, the company has invested heavily in reducing GHG emissions by enhancing energy efficiency in our production processes, electrifying fossil fuel-intensive operations, and utilising renewable electricity at the production sites.

Decarbonisation levers include:

  • Increasing energy efficiency
  • Replacing fossil fuels
  • Transitioning to renewable electricity.

Key areas of scope

A concrete GHG reduction plan is in place with actions that will significantly reduce Scope 1 and 2 emissions over the next few years. Key actions have been defined for the levers ‘replace fossil fuels’ and ‘transition to renewable electricity’.

Turbo blower at Louisenthal

Louisenthal is reducing electricity consumption through a varied range of initiatives. Most recent is the implementation of an energy-efficient turbo blower, which reduces electricity use by around 1,000,000 kWh per year (equivalent to approximately 250 single-family households).
