Spectra Signs Licensing Deal for New Polymer Feature

Spectra Systems Corporation – provider of machine readable technologies for banknotes and Fusion™ polymer substrate – has announced a licensing agreement with Oberthur Fiduciare for Kryptonome™, the latter’s patented new Level 1 security feature for polymer banknotes that was unveiled last year.

The gravure cylinder design for Kryptonome was jointly developed by Spectra’s secure printing group, formed following the acquisition of Cartor Security Printers in December 2023, and Riverside Gravure Ltd. Spectra and Riverside Gravure Ltd have patent-pending intellectual property expected to issue in 2027.

Commenting on the licensing agreement, Dr Nabil Lawandy, Chief Executive Officer of Spectra, said: ‘we are pleased to have successfully transformed an ingenious concept into a product which can be manufactured at high speeds on our gravure presses. This achievement will benefit both Spectra and Oberthur Fiduciare SAS as it is a highly robust security feature with a significant price point advantage over costly foils that will give us leverage in gaining traction in the polymer substrate market.’
