At the Global Currency Forum (GCF), Jura presented their work on creating a next generation banknote design software extended with some AI functions. The presentation included a detailed review of the performance of different AI models set the task of producing an engraved portrait.
The creation of a next generation design software included three requirements:
- Integration: the ability to manage both the design process and integration into the workflow.
- Usability: an assessment of whether the software was easy for designers to work with. On initial use, what was the training time to use it, how quickly could they go up the learning curve and were the controls intuitive. In using it, how easy was it to set up and how much user level maintenance was needed. How accessible were samples, were there predictive alerts and how straightforward was error recovery.
- Performance: the software needed to be able to handle creating line structures, creating text, screening, printability and provide quality control. It needed to be able to manage the overall banknote design including calculating total ink coverage, managing continuous design options and processes.
