- Bangladesh Bank has introduced a newly designed 5 taka (Tk) banknote, the last in the new series themed ‘Historical and Archaeological Architecture of Bangladesh’.
The new note features an image of Tara Mosque in Dhaka on the left side of the front panel, and the middle portion carries a background design with Bangladesh’s national flower, the water lily, including leaves and buds. The reverse side of the note contains an image titled ‘Graffiti-2024’, marking the uprising of 2024 that saw the overthrow of the Prime Minister, Sheik Hasina. This, in turn, led to the new series, which has seen the removal of the portrait of former President Sheikh Mujibur Rahman (the ex-Prime Minister’s father) from the country’s banknotes.
