nanoDOVID®: Shaping Light into Security
IQ Structures (IQS) has launched nanoDOVID®, describing it as a breakthrough in optical security technology that offers a fundamentally new approach to protecting banknotes and identity documents.
Rather than treating an optical feature as a repeating designed image, nanoDOVID® engineers the interaction of light at the nanoscale through complex, computer-calculated structures.
At the core of the technology lies an advanced system of nanoengineered optical structures generated using sophisticated mathematical algorithms and fabricated point-by-point with extreme precision. Unlike traditional holographic or diffractive features, nanoDOVID uses a periodic structure that does not contain simple repeating patterns.
In practical terms, the feature is not simply ‘an image on a foil’. It is an intricately engineered surface that forces light to behave in controlled ways as the document is tilted. Because the structure changes continuously across the surface, there is no single repeating unit for a counterfeiter to copy. Replicating the effect would require recreating every microscopic shape across the entire feature with extreme precision, a task that remains exceptionally difficult using current counterfeiting capabilities.
