At the recent Global Currency Forum in Antalya, Türkiye, De La Rue introduced OPTILIGHT™, a next-generation optical security platform for banknotes. OPTILIGHT™ combines nano-science, advanced optical engineering, and proprietary algorithms to deliver intuitive visual effects for public authentication.

According to the company, the launch demonstrates its commitment to advancing optical security beyond traditional holography, focusing on simpler and more effective authentication. As counterfeiting methods become more advanced, central banks increasingly prioritise features that the public can verify instantly without special equipment. OPTILIGHT addresses this need.

A key strength of the platform is its photo-realistic imagery. It reproduces national heroes, cultural symbols, landmarks, and intricate designs with exceptional clarity and depth. De La Rue believes this familiarity encourages instinctive public engagement, enabling users to authenticate banknotes almost subconsciously.

OPTILIGHT serves as a comprehensive optical platform for both paper and polymer banknotes. It provides design flexibility, brighter colours, sharper imagery, stronger contrast, and what the company calls ‘binary’ visual effects: clear on/off transitions that are easy for the public to recognise and verify.
