  • In addition to the previously announced new 20 manat, which will be released by the Central Bank of Azerbaijan next February as part of the roll-out of its new series, a new 20 kopeck coin will also be issued. • HM Government of Gibraltar has issued a new £5 note, replacing the previous, larger version. The new £5 was reduced in size to match the UK polymer £5 (albeit it remains on paper) and the colour changed to a vivid green. The note uses a new modern typeface and the new vignette image on the reverse of the note now depicts the Windsor suspension bridge, a tourist attraction opened in 2016.

A new PUREIMAGE™ holographic thread has been added with a tilt and movement effect, and the denomination visible in the thread as microprint. A GEMINI™ ultraviolet feature can be found on the front of the note and a see-through panel is visible on the reverse.

The £5 was last redesigned in 2011.

  • The Central Bank of the UAE has launched a new 50 dirham banknote commemorating the 50th anniversary of the Union of the United Arab Emirates. The banknote uses SAFEGUARD® polymer substrate. It has been printed by Oumolat Security Printing in Abu Dhabi.

  • The Central Bank of Mauritania has issued a new low denomination banknote – the 20 ouguiya – which adds to the series first introduced in 2017. The new note will co-circulate with the coin of the same value. In common with the other notes in the series, it is printed on polymer. The supplier was CCL Secure with GUARDIAN™, and the printer was Canadian Bank Note Company.

  • The Bank of Guatemala has issued a new 200 quetzales banknote, The note has the same design as its predecessor, issued in 2009, but includes a new GALAXY® Flip security thread (4mm gold-green) from Louisenthal. It also includes SPARK® Live from SICPA, the colours of which match the thread. In addition, tactile marks have been added to the top and bottom of the note for the visually impaired.

The new note was printed by Giesecke+Devrient. It will co-circulate with the current note until further notice.

  • As part of its new ‘Great Silk Road’ series of banknotes, the Central Bank of Uzbekistan has issued the next two new denominations – the 50,000 and 100,000 soms. The new notes combine a geometric modern style with antiquity, demonstrating significant landmarks along Uzbekistan’s section of the historical route.

The banknotes were produced by the state printer Davlat Belgisi. The 50,000 som features De La Rue’s IGNITE® security thread, with a drive effect in blue-to-green. A RollingStar® i+ thread with a wave effect in gold-to-green from Louisenthal appears in the 100,000 som, the first time this new feature has been used in a circulating note.

New 2,000 and 20,000 soms were introduced in June, followed by the 5,000 and 10,000 notes in August. Unless the Bank plans to redesign the 1,000 som, these two latest notes will complete the series.

The banknote has a vertical orientation on the front, and horizonal on the reverse and was produced on Landqart’s Durasafe® composite substrate which, due to its paper/polymer composition, enables the inclusion of number of unique security features.
