New Home for SICPA Down Under

The reputation of the Reserve Bank of Australia’s Craigieburn site in Melbourne as the world’s most unique banknote precinct has been strengthened with the arrival of SICPA Australia, which is basing its headquarters there. Note Printing Australia (also located on the site) has a long-term supply agreement with SICPA, and the RBA is committed to the use of SICPA proprietary features such as SPARK Live™ on its banknotes for the foreseeable future.

‘SICPA feels extremely privileged to be working with NPA in this project. Being based at the NPA site will allow us to further deploy our growing portfolio of services and create value for our partner. We look forward to a long and successful collaboration,’ said Howard Carter, SICPA Australia’s Managing Director.

Headquartered in Switzerland, SICPA made the recent strategic decision for its Australian subsidiary to focus its operations on supplying inks to NPA.

‘NPA is SICPA’s largest customer in Australia, so this move will really strengthen the relationship by providing focused support for NPA and reducing their cost base’ said NPA CEO Malcolm McDowell. ‘While SICPA leads the security ink market globally, by taking a partnership approach we’ve developed an excellent service model that will help retain the quality of our on-site ink production as well as ensuring the printing of these inks, and related security features, remains a strength of our business’.

The presence of SICPA’s office on-site adds yet another unique element to the Craigieburn banknote precinct, added NPA, and as a result, SICPA’s expertise will be on-site at all times, working with NPA’s Ink team, supporting print jobs on various printing machines, and helping participate in strategic projects in the print hall.

The Craigieburn precinct is home not just to NPA, but the RBA’s National Banknote Site, completed in 2017 and where Australian banknotes are processed, stored and distributed, as well as CCL Secure's main Guardian® production plant and Innovia Films, manufacturer of the base film for Guardian.
