Indian Papermaker Hits 100,000 Tonne Milestone
Bank Note Paper Mill India Ltd (BNPMIL) has recently celebrated its Foundation Day.
It was incorporated in 2010 as a joint venture between Security Printing and Minting Corporation of India Ltd (SPMCIL) and Bharatiya Reserve Bank Note Mudran Private Limited (BRBNMPL), and commenced operations in November 2015 on two production lines with an installed capacity of 12,000 tonnes per year.
To mark the anniversary, the company announced that it achieved the milestone of manufacturing 100,000 tonnes of banknote paper in June.
S Thalikerrapa, BNPMIL Managing Director, congratulated the staff on this achievement in a foundation day speech, citing that success of as part of the country’s Make In India initiative.
He also stated that the company is no longer dependent on imports of raw materials or security features, and gave an update on the expansion of production, which will see the construction of a new paper mill on a greenfield site in Odisha’s Balasore district with a capacity of a further 12,000 tonnes per year (see CN August 2022). The acqusition of the land for the new facility is currently underway.
